Performance Masterclass:

Character Development and Improvisation

What your students will learn:

1) How to create a dynamic character, and rehearse the details surrounding your character.

2) How to interact with creative stimulus, such as music, props and art/visual aids.

3) How to collaborate with a company of other performers (your classmates) to build your own improvised mini play.

Performance techniques they’ll be using:

1) Using theatrical games and exercises students will have fun exploring their movement, breathing, articulation and voice. Using such exercises such as building a ‘physical score’, and moving around the space, leading with different body parts, in order to create a more nuanced character.

2) Using creative stimulus, students will work together as a team to devise theatre, using the characters they have created earlier on in the workshop. They will create their own devised mini play, which they will show back to the class/parents/teachers at the end of the day.

3) Interacting with props, students will develop a relationship with various objects and how to perform with them authentically, and introduce them into their character work.
