First World War

What your students will learn:

1) Investigate the timeline of events that led to the beginning of the Great War.

2) Explore the emotions and themes linked with the war, including the feelings of the soldiers and the people who stayed at home.

3) Discover the popular culture of the time, learning some of the well known songs of the time. Additionally exploring some of the jobs that would have been performed on the “Home Front”.

Performance techniques they’ll be using:

1) Use drama to create a moving timeline, demonstrating the events leading up to the beginning of the Great War. Use movement to create a ‘Moving Propaganda Poster’!

2) Use role play and characterisation to understand the emotions felt by the soldiers and their families, and what people felt about the war. Through drama, investigate the jobs undertaken during the war by people on the “Home Front” including the work that women did, such as on the farms and in munitions factories.

3) Use music, dance and voice to experience the popular culture of the time, taking part in a Tea Dance!
